Fast Start For ALL leaders as soon
after they join a troop/pack/crew as possible. Video: Ask your Unit Training Chairperson for
this. 60 minutes Boys 20 minutes Venture New Leader Essentials (NLE) Designed for ALL volunteers
and provides: Youth Protection Training (YPT) Every adult (registered or not)
working with the program is required to be YPT trained. NEW On-line training : Cub Leader Specific (CLS) Required for ALL adult Cub
Leaders. Section for Tiger
Den Leader, Wolf
and Bear Den Leader, Webelos
Den Leader, Committee
Members, and Cub
Masters. NEW On-line training : Basic Adult Leader Outdoor Orientation (BALOO) For Cub leaders who go pack
camping. This is required training for the Pack
adult Leader planning and leading the overnighter. Must
register in advance. Outdoor Webelos Leader Training (OWL) Required for ALL Webelos
Leaders. Emphasis is on camping, outdoor skills and
outdoor Webelos pins. Must register in advance. Outdoor Leader Skills For Boy Scout leaders. This in a
two night training course, you camp. Part of training
required for Scout Leader TRAINED patch along with
Scoutmaster Specific
Training. Includes introduction in the skills needed to
conduct a fun and safe campout in the great outdoors.
Emphasis is placed on the safety and teaching skills to the
boys on campouts. Part of old BASALT. Must register in
advance. Scoutmaster & Asst. Scoutmaster Specific
Training For Boy Scout leaders. Part of
training required for Scout Leader TRAINED patch
along with Outdoor Leader
Skills. Covers Troop committee functions, Troop
meetings, advancements and the outdoor program. Recommended
for new Boy Scout Leaders,committee members, and Webelos Den
Leaders. Part of old BASALT. Must register in
advance. Troop Committee Challenge Training for Troop Committee members
examining the roles within the committee and developing
teamwork necessary to run an effective Troop Committee.
Training is done at the unit level by the District Training
Team. NEW On-line training : Varsity Leader Training Training conducted by the Council
designed to assist Varsity leaders in the management of
Varsity Teams. Venture Advisor Training Training conducted by the Council
designed to assist Venture Advisors implementing and
management of the Crew. Cubmaster Workshop A 4 hour training conducted by the
District training team examining the Cubmaster
position and how to fulfill this role in the Pack. Committee Chair Workshop A 4 hour training conducted by the
District training team examining the Committee
Chair position and how to fulfill this role in the
Pack. Charter Representative This is intended for the Charter
Organization Representative (COR) associated with
your Unit. COR is someone appointed by your charter
organization who acts as a go between for your Unit and the
organization. Charter
Organization Representative Training conducted by the Council
designed to assist charter
partner representatives in their role in the Unit. Climb on Safely Designed to help adult leaders organize a
climbing and rappelling program for their Unit. Climb On Safely Resources by Jim Szpakowski Den Leader Coach Workshop Conducted by the District training team
examining how the Den Leader Coach works with Den leaders
and the Unit committee. Merit Badge Counselor Orientation Designed to help adult leaders learn to teach Merit Badge topics. Rally Night Training Annual training to prepare Unit
leaders to plan and prepare a successful Rally night
enrollment of new Cub Scout families. Safe Swim Defense Required for Units engaging in any
swimming activity. Safe Swim Defense Resources by Jim Szpakowski NEW On-line training : Safety Afloat Required for any Units engaging in any
excursion, expedition, or trip on the water (canoe, raft,
sailboat, sailboard, motorboat, rowboat, tube, or other
watercraft). Safety Afloat Resources by Jim Szpakowski NEW On-line training : Scouting Safety begins with Leadership (Risk
Management) Usually at least one person on the Pack
Committee should attend to understand risks and
guidelines of planning outing and activities. Webelos
Leaders should also attend this class. This is the
old Health and Safety and now sometimes called "Scouting
Safety begins with Leadership". Soon to be required for
all Local Tour Permits! Scouting Safety Resources by Jim Szpakowski Secrets of WEBELOS Training conducted by the District Training Team. An in-depth look at the WEBELOS program designed for 1st year WEBELOS Leaders to help transition boys from WEBELOS to Boy Scouts. Train the Trainer Council conference designed to improve
the training skills of all adults involved in Scouting.
Programs are offered for Unit and District leaders in
Cub, Boy Scout
and Venture programs. Trek Safely Applies to ALL types of outdoor treks that
involve at least one overnight. Trek Safely Resources by Jim Szpakowski CPR Red Cross certification required for
Health & Safety
Chairperson in addition to First Aid.
Instructor status preferred. First Aid Red Cross certification required for
Health & Safety

status preferred. Inclement Weather Training Training conducted by the District
Training Team. Learn how to prepare and cope with inclement
weather conditions when Scouting in the outdoors. Adult Canoe Training Red Cross and BSA Council training for
adults to learn safe flat water canoeing skills. The
training is required for Unit use of Council canoes. Commissioner Training Council conducted training designed to
train adults to support units through Commissioner
service. Commissioner Conference Council conference for Commissioners
providing the latest program information and techniques for
Unit support. Pow Wow This is the largest training experience
sponsored by the Sam Houston Area Council. It is a full day
of fun and informative learning sessions led by experienced
volunteers that will help you plan a quality program for
your Den or Pack. University of Scouting This is the 2nd largest training
experience sponsored by the Sam Houston Area Council. It is
a full day of fun and informative learning sessions led by
experienced volunteers that will help you plan a quality
program for your Den or Pack. District Round Table This is the 1.5 hour monthly meeting of
Leaders and adults from the District. They provide ideas for
games, cheers, stunts, skits, crafts, and/or ceremonies for
the following month's theme. It is also a source of
information on upcoming events in the District and
Council. Once per month on the 2nd Thursday Wood Badge An intensive and fun filled training
open to all adult leaders who want to be the best leaders
they can be. The training covers topics in leadership
skills, scout craft training, advance training techniques
and more. It is held at the Council level twice per
year. . Powder Horn An intensive and fun filled training open
to all adult leaders who want to be the best leaders they
can be. The training covers topics in leadership skills,
scout craft training, advance training techniques and more.
