DISTRICT COMMITTEE NOMINATION PROCESS
by Bill Farrell

Tomahawk District Committee Elections November 2, 2006

The Nominating Chairman, appointed by the District Chairman, chairs the annual process of identifying and recruiting district manpower during the fall and assists as needed throughout the year.

The Nominating Committee is recruited by the District Chairman and is comprised of both Scouters and members of the general public who are interested in Scouting. The purpose of having a diverse committee is to help integrate Scouting into the community and develop partnerships.

The Nominating Committee selects a slate of candidates who will set the direction and tone of the district for several years to come. It is, therefore, essential that the Nominating Committee selects the best possible slate of candidates to serve the district.

The focus of the Nominating Committee is to identify volunteer nominations for the District Key 8. For our District, there are 6 volunteer positions on the Key 8. They are:

Vice Chairman Administration
Vice Chairman Finance
Vice Chairman Membership
Vice Chairman Program
District Chairman
District Commissioner

The position of District Commissioner is not considered a District nomination, rather a District recommendation requiring subsequent approval from the Council Board of Directors. The paid professional positions of District Director and District Executive, who complete the Key 8, are not nominated and are instead appointed by the Council. The Nominating Committee also develops a list of candidates for the positions of District members-at-large.

The Nominating Committee will convene in September and evaluate candidates through October. At the District Meeting on November 2nd, 2006, the Nominating Committee Chairman will provide the slate of candidates to the District Committee and conduct the Annual Election in accordance with the By-Laws of the Boy Scouts of America and the Sam Houston Area Council.

Registered members of the district may submit a list of candidates in writing to the Nominating Committee Chairman, for the six key leader and district members-at-large positions for the committee to consider.

The deadline for nominations is Tuesday, October 3rd. Nominations must be sent by postal mail to:
