Cub Scout Outdoor Program Chairman

Basic Functions

The District Cub Scout Outdoor Program Chairman reports to the District Vice-chairman of Program. Responsible to recruit a committee to promote Cub Scout overnight activities. These activities are to be carried out in a manner consistent with the methods of Cub Scout outdoor programming insuring that they are tailored to specific grade and age levels.

Evaluation Criteria

1.     Be personally involved, know what Camp Strake Cub World and McNair Cub Adventure Camp at Bovay Scout Ranch have to offer and what the basic differences are between the camps.

This person should be excited about cub camping.

 

2.      Work closely with your District Executive to develop and approve Cub Scout outdoor program plans and strategies to get Packs to camp for your district.

 

3.      Working closely with Unit Commissioners and District Commissioners using the Unit Check list

Make sure Packs are camping and make sure they are going to summer camp and day camp.

 

4.      Recruit a committee to support and encourage all packs to participate in Cub and Webelos Summer Camp and Weekend Family Camp at Bovay Scout Ranch and promote at every District Roundtable.

 

5.      Be supportive and work with the District Training Team on promoting age-appropriate BSA standards and Basic Adult Leader Outdoor Orientation (BALOO).

 

6.      Along with the District Training Team promote both Camp Strake Cub World and McNair Cub Adventure Camp at Bovay Scout Ranch at all Basic Cub Leader Training and at BALOO training. This is the basic Pack level training and the best possible place for promotion of our camps to new leaders. This is key and is not being done.

 

7.      Provide leadership in recruiting necessary manpower, to conduct and promote a Cub Scout District Cuboree or a Webelos Do Your Best event.

 

8.      Have knowledge of BSA Cub Scout overnight camping policies and standards and be responsible to communicate and promote these policies to all packs in the district.

 

9.      Encourage recruitment of a Unit Outdoor Program Chairman in each pack in the district.

This person should be excited about cub camping. Primary job is to promote, promote,

 promote cub camping at both weekend and summer camps   .

 

10.  Insure that the district has a date and necessary manpower recruited to successfully conduct a weekend at McNair Cub Adventure Camp at Bovay Scout Ranch.

 

11.  With your District Commissioners, survey all packs and be knowledgeable about pack participation in Cub and Webelos Summer Camp and report to district and CSOP Committee.

 

12.  Represent your district as a member of the Council Cub Scout Outdoor Program Committee and attend quarterly Council Coordinated meetings.

As with any leadership position, the leader is best judges by the results achieved by those people who are led.

A clear understanding of the roles and evaluation criteria for each of the other district leadership positions as provided in this manual is critical to the leader's success.
