ADVANCEMENT CHAIRMAN

Basic Functions

The District Advancement Chairman, with the guidance of the Vice Chairman program, recruits, trains and leads a District Advancement Committee to maintain, support and ensure high quality in the process by which youth members progress from rank to rank.

Evaluation Criteria

1.         Help unit leaders establish and maintain proper advancement procedures in their units.

2.         Achieve satisfactory results in the measurement of the number and percent of Scouts by program advancing during the year, monitor rank advancement progress throughout the year, identify those units with little or no advancement reported and arrange special assistance for such units as needed.

3.         Recruit and publish a current list of an adequate group of merit badge counselors.

4.         Schedule training for merit badge counselors as often as is needed.

5.         Review and approve all Eagle Scout service project plans.

6.         Serve as a member of the Eagle Scout Review Board.

7.         Investigate and recommend youth and adult members for Iifesaving and other special awards.

8.         Serve as an active member of the Council Advancement Committee.

As with any leadership position, the leader is best judged by the results achieved by those people who are led.

A dear understanding of the roles and evaluation criteria for each of the other district leadership positions as provided in this manual is critical to the leader's success.
