Air and Water Pollution Control
Compiled by Jim Szpakowski

Air Pollution: is chemical, physical (e.g. particulate matter), or biological agent that modifies the natural characteristics of the atmosphere. The atmosphere is a complex, dynamic natural gaseous system that is essential to support life on planet earth. (Wikipedia)

Water Pollution: is a large set of adverse effects upon water bodies (lakes, rivers, oceans, groundwater) caused by human activities. Although natural phenomena such as volcanoes, storms, earthquakes etc. also cause major changes in water quality and the ecological status of water, these are not deemed to be pollution. (Wikipedia)

Water Cycle: technically known as the hydrological cycle — is the continuous circulation of water within the Earth's hydrosphere, and is driven by solar radiation. This includes the atmosphere, land, surface water and groundwater. As water moves through the cycle, it changes state between liquid, solid, and gas phases. Water moves from compartment to compartment, such as from river to ocean, by the physical processes of evaporation, precipitation, infiltration, runoff, and subsurface flow. (Wikipedia)
Examples:
  1. Work on a legislator's staff to draft legislation and encourage enactment of state laws that require the planting of trees along all state highway rights-of-way to assist in reducing motor-vehicle air pollution, as well as filtering silt and many toxic substances.
  2. Provide public education on storm water runoff and pollution of water bodies, perform a storm drain stenciling service project in your area and publicize the project.
  3. Provide public education on energy consumption and air & water pollution, perform a energy conservation service project in your area to reduce air & water pollution, publicize the project.
  4. Provide public education on air pollution and the benefits of forest, perform a tree planting service project in your area to reduce air pollution, publicize the project.
  5. Provide public education on indoor air pollution, perform an indoor air pollution control service project in your area and publicize the project.
